The Rockies are nearest to the SW-YEGVille. Recreational lakes like Wabamun and Sylvan contribute to SW-YEGVille’s recreational vibe.

The Rockies-Reach. The quadrant is the nearest YEGVille gets to the mountains to the west. The reason is simple geography – the Rockies arch west, and away from Edmonton. While they are visible from most points in Calgary, they are a long four hour drive from Edmonton.
Mountain Relationship is also different. Hinton is a rougher town growing up on the doorstep of its sister park’s companion of Jasper. Compare that to the increasingly chichi Canmore and its sister Banff (of course, all comparisons are off the the table with the tragic 2024 Jasper wild fires).
Large Recreational Lakes include Wabamun, Pigeon, and Sylvan. The lakes, mountains, and increasingly constrained farmland give SW-YEGVille a vibe of recreation and looking west.
